4Great helmet, could use more vertical depthDec 27, 2008
The product info says this helmet is for heads measuring 58-65 cm, which is 22 7/8 to 25 1/2 inches in circumference. According to my tape measure, that's accurate.

My head measures 23.5" (59.7 cm) around and is long front to back, flat on the sides, with a tall cranial vault. Measuring over the top of my head from the top of one ear "trough" to the other (where the temple-piece of glasses would rest--and along the path of a girl's hairband), I get 14" (35.5 cm). Using a T-bar, the vertical rise of my head from ear "trough" to top of skull is 5 1/8" (13 cm).

I could use a little more vertical depth in the helmet, because it sits about 1" (2.5 cm) above the tips of my ears and 3/4" (2 cm) above the highest part of my eyebrows. It rests 1 1/4" (3.2 cm) above the bridge of my nose. The visor sits too high above my eyes to be very effective, other than at high noon.

I am very pleased with the adjustment band, which should accommodate virtually any head shape. I've got lots of unused space at the sides of the shell, which means the helmet should also fit heads much rounder than mine.

Since my head is on the lower half of the fit range for this helmet, I would recommend that Bell increase the vertical depth of the helmet by about 3/4" (2 cm) and offer a choice of foam pads for those who don't need the extra space in that dimension.

Overall, however, I'm really happy that the retention strap actually grabs at the bottom of my occiput the way it should, and that the shell clears the front curve of my head, instead of crushing me around the hairline. This is the first time I've had a helmet that's actually comfortable and doesn't leave me with any sore spots on my head.

5Great Helmet!Jul 12, 2008
this is the second bell helmet that I have owned. my other one sat outside in the elements and became cracked as a result. this helmet is great, looks cool and best of all will protect me in the unlikely event of a fall. and I will not be leaving it outside to the elements.

5first bike helmet that fit my HUGE mellonJun 07, 2008
Every other helmet I tried fit like a yamika. This helmet fits! If you have a hippo head like I do this is the bike helmet for you.

5Finally! It's perfect!Mar 07, 2008
I have tried every large or extra-large helmet available for years. The Giro Atlas II, Garneau Robota, and Trek Interval XL are all advertised as extended size products. None of those helmets fit me. I also tried several high end Limar helmets that are widely recommended for larger heads, but they still didn't fit me. I wear a 7-3/4 or 8 hat (depends on the hat). Some of the extended size helmets had a large enough band, but still sat very high on my head because the shell was too small. It seems that I have a tall and big head.

The first time I slipped this helmet on it felt like a miracle. I have easily tried on 50 different helmets over the years and this is the first one that looked good and felt comfortable.

The styling is great. It looks like a road style helmet if you remove the snap-on visor. It breathes very well. The fit adjustment system is nicer than the one on my $120 Giro that gives me headaches from the tight band. After adjustment I have a little over 2" of strap left, so I think that Bell may have lengthened it since the earlier reviewer received his.

If you need an XL helmet, this is your model. Don't let the low price scare you away. It fits big heads, has top of the line features, and looks great as a mountain bike helmet or road bike helmet. I would have bought it at three times the price.

4Didn't know there was a bike helmet this big out thereDec 28, 2007
I went to several local bike shops, took a month to look for a helmet that would fit. All hope was lost and I wanted to ride my new $1600 carbon bike really bad...but not without a helmet. Finally, finally, I have a helmet that not only fits, but looks pretty good too with different color patterns. The bell triton is a very good quality helmet (based on couple of crashes I took). It held up with no cracks. The only short fall was that the straps were a little bit short but not enough to make this helmet a good fit. I would recommend it to anyone.
